Rev. Randy Asburry serves as Senior Pastor of Hope Ev. Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO (since 2001). Previously he served parishes in St. Louis, MO; Boonville, MO; and Gillette & Wright, WY. Pastor Asburry earned his MDiv from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (1990), his MA in Classics (Greek and Latin) from Washington University, St. Louis (1992), and his STM degree in Systematic Theology from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (1998), writing on Luther’s view of faith in the Catechisms.
He is also a graduate of DOXOLOGY: The Lutheran Center for Spiritual Care and Counsel. He has served as Circuit Counselor (Wyoming and Missouri), as staff writer for Good News magazine, and on subcommittees for Lutheran Service Book. He has written Bible studies, devotional booklets and tracts for Concordia Publishing House, and has been a regular guest on Issues, Etc. as well as KFUO’s The Bible Study/Ask the Pastor and Studio A. Most recently, he was the original host of KFUO’s morning program, “His Time” (April 2012 – September 2013). Pastor Asburry and his wife, Rachel, have two children, Christina and Jonathan.

Matthew Janssen serves as Kantor at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. His duties include serving as primary organist, directing the adult and children’s choirs, working with instrumentalists, as well as assisting in worship planning. Matthew also serves as the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Lutheran High School South in St. Louis, Missouri. There he directs the Wind Symphony, Concert Band and Jazz Band, as well as overseeing the Elementary Band Program at nine local Lutheran Elementary schools. Matthew has served as kantor for congregations in Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri.
Mr. Janssen holds degrees from Concordia University—Nebraska (B.S. in Music Education) and the University of Louisville, KY (M.M. in Trumpet Performance). While at Concordia he studied organ with notable Lutheran organist, Charles Ore. Matthew has been the recipient of numerous national awards, including the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center for his role as music director of Concordia University’s 2002 production of the musical Into the Woods. Matthew appeared twice as a semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition in Washington, D.C. and was also a semi-finalist in the first annual Armando Ghitalla Trumpet Competition in 2006. In 2008 he performed with the Reunion Brass Quintet at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition, being named as one of two finalist groups in the professional division. In 2009 Matthew conducted the Lutheran High School South Wind Symphony in their command performance at the Missouri Music Educators Conference. The summers of 2013 and 2016 found him assisting with the musical aspects of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Synodical Convention and in 2014 he was on the planning committee and served as presenter and musician for the triennial LCMS Institute on Worship and Church Music.
In 2016 he was married to Keri at Hope Lutheran Church. They reside in the St. Louis area with their two rescue dogs, Clarabella and Johann, and their rescue cat Muffin. When not involved in music, the entire family enjoys being outdoors, camping, and reading.
In 2019 he finalized overseeing the installation of the Parsons Pipe Organ Builders, Op. 49 instrument as well as founding the Music in a Sacred Space concert series which features the renovated organ and sanctuary of Hope Lutheran Church.
